10/9/2022 0 Comments Find Your Zen ZoneWhile travelling the world on your lonesome, you might find that it all becomes a bit overwhelming. You miss your friends, family or environment. Or, more often than not, a combination of the three. You might need some time to recharge your social battery (even I need to do this sometimes!) or take time to ponder what an utter shit-show your life is (I definitely need to do this). The above is what makes it important to discover what I like to call your 'Zen Zone'. Think of your Zen Zone as a home away from home. Song recommendations for while you read! Add these to a queue before you start and let your streaming platform do the rest:
Now, of course, there are some criteria. Your zone needs to be common enough that it can be found almost anywhere (for example, it can't be your mum's garden or something like that), yet unique enough that it really is special when you do find it. Another key point is to think of it more like a scenario than a place. Let me tell you about my Zen Zone. I find my most serene scenario to be by water at night. Whether it's a stony beach in Greece, or next to the river Danube in Budapest, as long as it is at night, I have beer and I have cigarettes, I have found my Zen Zone. It's something about the destructive power of the waves and the sound they produce as they wash the shore and crash against the rocks that soothes me. Equally, it's the stillness of a lake as the moon reflects on the surface, amplifying even the tiniest of disturbances. Water can match any mood - calm, chaos, joy, sadness - whatever your mood, the water can surely relate. For you, adventurous and attractive reader, it could be anywhere. I wouldn't quite equate it to your 'happy place', as that could be anything. Your happy place could be in a crowded Oktoberfest beer tent, slinging beer and singing German folk songs at the top of your lungs (I know mine is), or equally it could be with your family, relaxing around a fire with marshmallows and telling stories.
No, this needs to be your Zen Zone. A place to be alone and to be comfortable in being alone. A place where you can take off any mask you show to the world and be your true self. A place where you can think and ponder and laugh or cry (especially cry). A place where you can reminisce about love lost or wonder about love to be found. A place to write music or poetry or stories. To sing and dance like a madman until the sun comes up, where your insecurities fade away and you are left with a quiet mind. Here are some suggestions of possible Zen Zones:
The possibilities are endless. However, note 3 key things about each of the above:
When these things come together all at once, you have found your Zen Zone and your true self is unleashed. We've all been in a tent. However when that rain rumbles down and you have a good book and a soft light, it takes you to a place that you just can't beat. Whatever it may be, find it, cherish it, and use it wherever you go. We all need some time alone to be ourselves, to take a break from the world and romanticise life. Find your Zen Zone, and wherever you may be, you'll always find home. I'd love to hear what your zen zones are, let me know in the comments below! All the best, The Lonesome Wanderer P.S. Well done for making it to the end!
