7/27/2022 2 Comments Paint Your Front Door YellowI recently came out of my home office (read: my bedroom) to my darling Mother standing in the hallway, beaming at me and exclaiming that she had just bought some yellow paint for the front door of her new house. She had this mad grin across her face that was just infectious, and I was instantly on board with the idea. A bright colour for a bright household - Excellent! My Mum explained to me that she had read countless forums and articles about which colours to not paint your front door, no doubt written by poncy troglodytes and wanky home design experts, in which the colour yellow featured in pretty much every list. She took that as a sign, and promptly purchased enough yellow paint to drown The Beatles submarine and flood Dorothy's road all the way to Oz. This got me thinking. Why not paint your door yellow? Yellow is bright, yellow is happy, and more importantly, yellow is not the norm. Quite the opposite, you're actually advised against it. If a smile were to be a colour, that colour would be yellow. Since the great door painting of last week, I have returned home, without fail, with a huge grin on my face. It feels almost as if the door itself is smiling back at me. Now you might think, silly Lonesome Wanderer, what has this got to do with solo travel? And I challenge you, able and competent reader. This defines a much wider metaphor than can be taken at face value. What this means to me, simply, is be happy. Do what you want to do, no matter what people tell you. Wear bright colours (or a black leather jacket on the beach), listen to the music you want to listen to, go travelling on your own. Hell, shave your head into a mohawk and dye it UV green (it was lockdown, I don't want to talk about it). The most important thing here is: If it makes you smile, do it. Paint your door yellow, or green, or purple, or black. Be like my Mum. Whatever makes your heart sing, do it, and other's hearts will sing along with you in chorus.
All the best, The Lonesome Wanderer P.S. Well done for making it to the end! Thank you for taking the time to read the above post, below you can find some quotes and 3 songs that I thought matched the theme of this post nicely. I look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments below! Quotes:

Short and sweet but full of meaning 💛 Tell your mum the door looks lovely and the flower wreath really tops it off!
